In chapter 15, Holden spends a great deal of time explaining about his suitcases. What is he really saying about appearances/how we look to others? Is Holden worried about how he appears to other people?
I think he is telling us how do people look on other by their clothes or suitcases as he said the people who have agood suit cases thats mean that they are rich and the people who have like cheap suitcases they are poor.
I think the suitcases are a metephore for the persons personality. He is saying that some people judge people by their appearence, without getting to know them. I agree with Brandon
He is saying that appearance is everything, most people judge people by how they look. I think on the outside he doesn't seem to care but he really does. I agree with Billy.
i think he's saying how most people judge you at first glance by what you look like or are wearing.i believe he does worry about his appearance, but just like everyone else, he wants to put his best foot forward.
Holden has this idea that if someone has a lousy suitcase then they're either lousy or poor. He's not at all worried about his appearence because according to his decsent suit case he's respectable. and he really wouldn't care anyway since he's claimed so many times how he didnt care how he looked when he wore his red hunting cap.
I think he is worried about his appearance and the better our suitcases look, the better we look.
