So far I would have to say that Holden is not a very responsible person. Failing classes, getting kicked out of fancy schools and losing the fencing equipment are mentioned in just the first few pages of the book. Hopefully, as we get more into the book, the reasons for these actions may explain them.
I think Holden is not a responsible person, considering he left all the equipment he was managing on the train. And he also doesnt take care of his health well and do his part in helping the family.
I think Holden isn't a responsible person because when Old Spenser was concerned about his grades Holden was thinking about something else and he was thinking about Central Park wondering if the ducks were still there.I also don't think he is a responsible person because he kept encouraging Stradlater and Stradlater ended up fighting with Holden and Holden was bleeding.
I dont think Holden is responsible because he makes poor decisions. His poor decisions consist of smoking which isnt healthy and failing to do well in school.
Holden is a very irresponsible person because he has been kicked out of several schools, and he just lets his grades become bad even though he is capable of passing. Also I believe he is irresponsible because he has yet to tell his parents about being kicked out of the school, even though he already knows.
Does anything think that the guilt he seems to feels shows maybe he KNOWS he's not doing what he should, especially with school? I mean it's hard to get kicked out of three schools - but what's causing that?
Absolutely. He looks at the options at hand and makes a decision, whether he forgets his equipment or fails a class, that is his choice. Just because society wills him to be a good student and follow the path of others that are exceptional at what they are commanded to do dosent make him irresposible. To be resoponsible is to have accountability for your actions and he does.
