Holden is someone that I have sympathy for. He seems like such a lonely young man who wants support and attention from his family. In order to protect himself, he tries to make everyone else seem like they are phonies. He seems like he is reaching out to the readers for guidance.
He's kind of depressing just to read about honestly, he does drugs, has family issues, and he gets in trouble allot. Not to mention he complains throughout the story.
Many people underestimate him for some reason and it makes him feel a little bit. there are other reasons that he is not a people person at all especially when he argues.
Holden is a likeable charecter because he can not be rude to other people. Such as when he stayed to talk to old spencer even though he did not want to stay and talk to him.
I think that Holden is a likeable chararcter so far because I feel like us, as teenagers, can relate to him. Most of us have probably been in some of the same situations as him and have gotten annoyed and we'll think some of the same things he does. However, we don't always voice our opinions as harshly as he does. But overall, I like him as a character so far and it makes for a more enjoyable read.
He would seem like a nice person but this story is in a first person perspective and have unlimited access to his thoughts and ideals and really shows he's kind of a jerk.
Emily Smith- He does have someone that understands him, Mr. Spencer! Even though Holden wants to get out of Mr. Spencers house becasue he is frusterated at him he still understands him.
I think Holden is likable because he has an interesting personality and I like the way he speaks. People can relate to him and the issues that he has to face. Holden has some difficulties with his family and drug issues, therefore, he tries to reach his readers for guidance.
Holden Is definatly a likeable character, to me at least. I love the fact that Holden's point of view is realistic to a teenagers point of veiw on life. When he talks with Old Spencer his mind starts to wander and he becomes very bored. This shows his teenage mind. But I also like Holden because he has a mature side to him. He might still act like a teenage boy but he has a side to him thats wise. This shows when he expresses his respect for girls. So, I think Holden is definatly a likeable character to kids that are in highschool.

ReplyDeleteI also have sympathy for him. He doesn't have anyone who actually understands him so it is sad.

ReplyDeleteFrom my perspective he is a likeable character. This is just because he's judging people based on their actions and thoughts of others.
