As you have seen by now, Holden seems to swear a great deal when telling you about his feelings. Do you thinks it's okay? Is it necessary? Do kids present day do the same thing?
yah i guess its fine if hes talking to himself or about himself but if he starts swearing directed towards other then he crossed the line... i feeeeeeellll you Owais
I do not think that swearing is okay , and it is definitely not necessary. There are many words in the English language that could be used to express the same feelings. Kids today swear much more now then in Holden's time period, usually without even realizing they are doing it. Swearing has become a normal part of their speech.
I do not think that swearing is okay even if you are frusterated or hurt because there maybe some kids around who may pick it up from you. I was taught not to swear or lie.
I agree that swearing has become a normal part of kid's speech today. I feel that those words can sometimes be appropriate when expressing personal feelings but it is NOT okay to use them against someone else. It really depends on the situation. If you are speaking to an adult, it is totally uncalled for to use explicit language. But if you are speaking to a very close friend and are describing your emotions it is okay. Also in most of the novel, when Holden is swearing he is talking to himself so technically no one else can hear him.
I dont think that swearing is necessary beczause you can describe your feeling in othe way by using more polite word i think that will reflect who you are better
I think Holden swears so much because he has no other way to express his anger. So I do think it's ok. If he didnt swear then the anger he has would just build up. Though swearing isnt the best way to get rid of anger, really Holden has no other way. Nobody is there to listen to him and be there to help him through his problems. He has to handle it himself and thats the way he does it. And of course kids do it today and some do it maybe for the same reason as Holden and others do it just for the reason of thats what they are used to and thats what they hear all the time, its the norm.
Doesn't matter who you are every teenager has sworn. Holden swears alot to plas emphasis on his emotions. But it's only justifiable until he does it in excess. Most kids do the same thing as it has become almost normal to use as vocabulary.
i think its just his way of getting out his emotions and most of them being negative its the only way he can think of. today swearing is still part of getting your emotions out.
