Holden really has no clue what it is like in the adult world. An example from the story is when he is looking out of his hotel room and seeing all the things that people are doing and is wondering if this is normal behavior of adults, he has no clue what to expect.
I agree, c, we learn by example many times... and sometimes adults just aren't good ones. No matter young people get confused by and/or frustrated with the "real" world....
i don't think he really does understand the adult world becasue if he did he would take more responsiblity for his mistakes and learn from them, like maybe try not failing out of school
Holden doesn't understand the adult world what-so-ever. He may think he understands some parts of it, but as a whole he doesnt. Hes always trying to act more mature thatn he is, and often times its clear to others hes not as mature as he is trying to portray, often making him feel depressed when his goals dont meet fruition.
He may understand parts of it but he doesn't any thing else but the parts of where people drink alcohol or do drugs but he doesn't understand about sex and things about girls.
I think that Holden spends so much time looking into the specific details of every little thing he notices, that he doesn't grow up at the same pace as everyone else. This is why he seems so childish, and really isn't ready for the life of an adult.

I don't think Holden understands the adult world because he is not being like an adult by smoking cigarettes and getting kicked out of school. he needs to act responsible and tell his parents that he got kicked out of Pencey.
I think Holden doesn't understand the adult world, but he wants to. For example when he calls Faith Cavendish he tries to talk in a deeper voice to convince her to meet up. She eventually realizes how young he really is.
I believe that holden does not understand the adult world, as well as he thinks he does. This has led him to a few adult situations, which led him to confusing and a lack of Responsibility
Holden is not ready for the adult world. However, he is not completely hopeless. He has some aspects that are more mature, like the way he was with the prostitute. He tried to get to know her before sleeping with her. Then again, he was very naive when dealing with her and Maurice.
Holden is only looking forward to having the privaleges of an adult but is no where near understanding the responsibility of being someone who can function in a society.
i dont think he does have the responsibility of being an adult i think that he just wants it to happne because it seems to him that adults have all the power but once he is i think that he will be surprised how hard it is.
I think he is in between worlds right now, he is sick of the childeren/teenage world, but I dont think he quite grasps the meaning of being an adult and the responsibilities that come with it. He dosent understand why adults do what they do for example in Chaper 9 when he was watching everyone, and didnt understand why they were spitting water on each others face or why a man is dressing in womens clothes.
I dont think Holden understands the adult world, because he cant even keep track of his life, with just having the responisbility of just going to school. Adults have a lot more responsilbity and need to be able to work under pressure, Holden is not yet capable of that.
Holden deff has no clue on how to be a adult. Leaving your home without telling anyone is not really a mature thing to do. Plus the excessive swearing that he says around womman.

I don't think he understands what the adult world is about because he said he doesn't understand relationships or sex so he doesn't understand the adult world. He is still a kid in most peoples eyes.
He dosent understand the adult world, how can he? books wont give him that knowledge, you need the experience to be labeled an adult. you must be seasoned with responsibility and at his age hes necessarily responsible, but you cant call him irresponsible. Hes a kid and he wants to do what he wants and not have to worry about it
