In chapter 10, Holden tells you more about his family. Does this help you understand anything new about Holden? If so, what?

  1. In this chapter Holden finally lets the reader into his life and what his story really is. Something new that holden states is that he has a brother, Allie that he was very close with who died from Lukemia. Holden and his family seem like they really haven't been able to deal with this death which could be a huge reason why Holden acts the way that he does.

  2. In this chapter Holden lets reader into his life and tell what is story is about. Something new that Holden states is that his sister phoebe also writes books but doesn't finish them. Holden also states that his sister is smart and gets a's in school. Holden also states that he was close with his brother named Allie who died from leukemia. Holden and his family can't get over the death and that could be a huge reason that Holden acts irresponsible.

  3. I think it helps us learn why he goes from school to school.

  4. I also thinks it helps when we know he doesn't mention his parents much. It is easier to learn about him if we know about his family history. It seems that even though he doesn't really like his parents, he is pretty close to all of his siblings.

  8. No i think that by holden telling you about his family, it makes you more puzzled and perplexed about why he acts the way he does. After all Holden comes from a wealthy family and has caring parents who both get worried when he screws up; they're not uncaring people like you would expect from his actions. The only information it may give is how the death of his little brother is affecting his mental stability and outlook on the world.

  10. I believe that holden is very sensitive when he mentions his sister or brother in the book.

  14. Yes i feel that this chapter helped out very much with understanding his family more. He states that his little sister Phoebe is one of the best dancers dead or alive, and that she writes books but never finishes them.
